More Carmarthen Yew
|
After making the Green Lady wand I mentioned to a friend that it was the last Yew I had suitable for a wand. He went in the shed and came out with some branches from a tree which grew in a churchyard in Carmarthen, about 150 yards from the Royal Oak planted by Merlin (Caer-Merlin). The council had cut it down in the 1970s and were going to put it in landfill so he'd grabbed some and I now have enough for 3 or 4 more Yew handled wands. Its very well seasoned but as you can see, the first handle has spectacular patterns, you never know what art the tree has formed within it but if this first one's anything to go by they should be stunning.
This wand will have a long, thick, incisive clear Quartz point with a single phantom at the front, and a Fluorite ball collector on the back, both selected for their feel. It will have a hole drilled down the middle, filled with small clear Quartz crystals touching and connecting at each end. Yew is what you might call a stern mistress, the Black Obsidian of wand handles, the slightest mistake can change the whole plan and some may break, but in a 'highest good' sort of way |
The polish is on the first one and its ready to have the hole drilled. Its quite a chunky handle, the main bit is about 5 inches/12 cm long. Its a shape I learned to make for mallet handles , comfortable in the hand and unintrusive in meditation. The slight curve means that you see the main grain with a flicker of the end grain. More pics as we go :)
